Milyonları ağlatan, gerçek hikayesiyle meraka sevk eden, Ümit Yaşar Oğuzcan’ın yazdığı, “Milyon Kere Ayten” şiirinden esinlenilerek yazılan ROMAN! *** Hem yanımda hem de çok uzaktasın. İnsanın aynası gözleridir derler. Nasıl bakarsa, öyle yansıtır içini. Benim aynam hiç olmamıştı, çevrem yükselme tutkusuna yenilmiş riyakârlar, birbirinin kuyusunu kazan hırs tutkunlarıyla kaplanmıştı. Annem; “En büyük yalnızlık, milyonların arasında nefessiz kalmak.” derdi, bazen öyle kesiliyordu ki nefesim, içimin günden güne öldüğünü kimse bilmezdi. Onu ilk defa bir düğün günü gördüm. Şımarık kız çocuğuna benzeyen asi buklelerini omuzlarında tutmak imkânsızdı. Kızınca hırçın, dalınca sonsuz, gülünce eşsiz bir ummandı bakışları. Herkes mavi gözlü olabilirdi ama onun gözleri başkaydı. Sormayın Ayten’i anlatamam, tarifi öyle imkânsızdı. Anlatabilsem kıskanacaktı deniz, anlatabilsem hasedinden yarılacaktı gök kubbe, anlattığım gün açmaya utanacaktı menekşe, anlatabilsem binlerce parçaya bölünürdü adı.
Landraces possess a very large genetic base in population structure and are dynamic populations of cultivated plants with historical origin, distinct identity, and without any formal crop improvement. They are often genetically diverse, locally adapted, and associated with traditional farming systems. Resistance genes to biotic and abiotic stress factors, which are especially diversified in landraces, are of great interest to plant breeders, faced with global climate challenge. In addition, gene pools made of different landraces grown in different ecological conditions can be used for wheat breeding to enhance quality; yield and other desirable agricultural parameters. An estimated 75% of the genetic diversity of crop plants was lost in the last century due to the replacement of high yielding modern varieties. There is, thus, an urgent need to preserve existing species, not only for posterity but also as a means to secure food supply for a rising world population. In this book, we provide an overview of wheat landraces with special attention to genetic diversities, conservation, and utilization.
Women of Kurdistan: A Historical and Bibliographic Study documents a century long history of Kurdish women’s struggles against oppressive gender relations and state violence. It speaks to bibliographic silences on Kurdish women; silences that are systemic and structured, with many factors contributing to their (re)production. The book records extensive literature on violence perpetrated by the family, community, and the state as well as presenting the reader with a vibrant archive of resistance and struggle of Kurdish women. The analysis avoids the fashionable state-centered scholarship, which purifies processes of nation-building, state-building, and disguises their violence. The image de...

How to Lose a Country is a warning to the world that populism and nationalism don’t march fully-formed into government; they creep. Award-winning author and journalist Ece Temelkuran identifies the early warning signs of this phenomenon, sprouting up across the world from Eastern Europe to South America, in order to arm the reader with the tools to recognise it and take action. Weaving memoir, history and clear-sighted argument, Temelkuran proposes alternative answers to the pressing – and too often paralysing – political questions of our time. How to Lose a Country is an exploration of the insidious ideas at the core of these movements and an urgent, eloquent defence of democracy. This 2024 edition includes a new foreword by the author.
