Modelled on a similar study of Rivers State in Nigeria, the objective of this study is to give a simple but authoritative interdisciplinary introductory history. Although written by specialists, it is directed to a lay readership. Bayelsa, being a new state, is in need of self- definition and understanding, not least to promote greater tolerance within and between communities. Thirty-six scholars, largely Nigerian, have contributed to the study, which is divided into seven parts: the enviroment, the people, culture, history, politics, economy and social services.
This books represents a survey of the historical experience of women in the Niger Delta region, intending to fill the gap in information on Nigerian women. It arises from a conference on historiography and women's history, and focuses on the documentation of women's contribution to historical development, or rather lack thereof, which has resulted in the invisibility of women in historical narratives. It advocates gender as a tool of historical analysis; discusses the corrective role of Gender Studies, and to what extend expansion in this field is providing a solution. The volume includes a contribution by the renowned Nigerian feminist Professor of History at the University of Ibadan, Awe Bolanle.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: This study investigates factors responsible for salary fraud in Bayelsa State Civil Service, Nigeria. The study adopted ex-post-facto research design. Data were gathered from secondary sources. Robert K. Merton’s anomie theory was adopted as the study’s theoretical framework. The study found that the crime of salary fraud persists in Bayelsa State civil service despite measures taken by government to stem it. It also discovered that the challenges such as lack of adequate funds and corruption confronting the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) are responsible for the futile prosecution of culprits. Based on these discoveries, the study recommends amongst others, that Bayelsa State Government should train Forensic accountants to man all her Ministries, Departments, and Agencies as a proactive measure to check fraud.
