"Ser gitano" fuera y dentro de la escuela es una monografía elaborada a partir de investigación etnográfica que desarrolló la autora sobre el fenómeno educativo en un pequeño grupo de familias gitanas de un barrio obrero situado en la periferia de la ciudad de Valencia. Al iniciar la etnografía en la escuela, la investigadora ya llevaba ocho meses viviendo entre las familias gitanas, a través de ese trabajo de campo le permitió comprender su cultura y entender la óptica desde la que los niños gitanos y sus familias miraban la institución escolar. Se trata de una contribución a la lucha contra la desigualdad social y cultural.
