Dawn Cookson's first meeting with Pietro Annigoni was in London in 1956. While visiting the Royal Academy as a young art student, she was inspired by his first portrait of Her Majesty The Queen and was determined to become his pupil. But first Annigoni advised her to go to the studio of an old friend of his in Florence, Nerina Simi, a few of whose best pupils later went on to work with the Maestro.
