Pierre Nezat was born 1736 in Layrac, France. As a teenager, he learned the trade of his father, a carpenter, and at the age of 19 volunteered for the account of a colonist. He left Layrac and France for the West Indies on the traces of Jean Roy, Jean Hebert and Guillaume Barre...He settled in Louisiana and met Magdelaine Provost, Frenchwoman born in Fort de Chartres, Illinois. Both are the founders of a very great family. The book, about the Nezat and allied families, includes the history, portraits of descendants as well as a family tree with index from 1630 to May 2007. This trilingual volume focuses on acts of transgressive acting/writing in selected texts of European literatures whose authors differ in gender, nationality and time frame. Love and Sexuality
The papers collected in this volume are selected from the proceedings of the Love and Sexuality conference held at the University of Leeds in 2002. They bring together a cross-section of new directions in the study of love and sexuality currently being explored in French Studies. The central focus of the collection is the representation of love, desire, erotica and sexuality in the couple, in particular in relation to depictions of women. The contributions share a common concern with problematising issues of love and sexuality across various disciplines, focusing on literary texts, cinema, gender studies, theatre studies, history, visual iconography and cultural studies, and ranging from the sixteenth century to the present day.
