The Nightmare of Participation

Welcome to Harmonistan! Over the last decade, the term "participation" has become increasingly overused. When everyone has been turned into a participant, the often uncritical, innocent, and romantic use of the term has become frightening. Supported by a repeatedly nostalgic veneer of worthiness, phony solidarity, and political correctness, participation has become the default of politicians withdrawing from responsibility. Similar to the notion of an independent politician dissociated from a specific party, this third part of Miessen's "Participation" trilogy encourages the role of what he calls the "crossbench practitioner," an "uninterested outsider" and "uncalled participator" who is not limited by existing protocols, and who enters the arena with nothing but creative intellect and the will to generate change.

“Ritual without Myth” is an exhibition that brings together practices that revisit the idea of RITUAL as a catalyst for transformative experience and interrogate MYTH as a set of beliefs that sustain our social structures. It features the work of ten international artists, currently emerging to wide critical acclaim. Gegenwartskunst ist mehr als schlichte Zeitgenossenschaft. Es ist eine neue Weise des Sehens und des Sichtbarmachens. Diesem Gedanken ist der radikale Wandel verpflichtet, mit dem die rumänische Kunst sich im vergangenen Jahrzehnt neu erfunden hat. Antrieb ist vor allem eine junge Generation rumänischer Künstler, die nicht mehr die direkte Erfahrung des Lebens und Arbeitens im Kommunismus gemacht hat. Ihre Werke artikulieren ein aktuelles Lebensgefühl samt seiner eigenen Wahrnehmung und Diskurse. Ein Hauptthema ihrer künstlerischen Produktion ist die Macht technisch vermittelter Bilder zur Kontrolle und Konstruktion von Realität und sozialer Erfahrung. Der prächtige Bildband nimmt diesen Schwerpunkt auf, um 29 der innovativsten Künstler und ihre eindringlichen wie faszinierenden Werke vorzustellen.

The Attraction of the Mountains. Nicolás Lamas
In his work, Nicolás Lamas deals with notions of chaos and order as entangled forms of organisation that widely cross disciplines, cultures and sensibilities. In order to show these associations, the book aims to synthesise the complex universe that the artist has been composing in the recent years. This composition is being made out of random encounters, pictures taken by the artist, materials from his personal archives, quotes, online images and documentation of his work, thus adopting an expansive strategy as its method.
