Includes minutes of the Board of Health for 15 Jan. 1873-29 Mar. 1880, 3 Sept. 1889-20 Dec. 1890, and 3 Jan. 1895-31 Dec. 1915; and minutes of the Health Commissioner for 1919-1926, 1928-1934, and 1936-1939. The first Board of Health in Boston was established in 1799, under the special statute of 13 Feb. 1799; abolished by the first City Charter and from 1822-1873 its functions were exercised through the City Council; the last Board of Health was established by an ordinance passed 2 Dec. 1872; by Chapter 1 of the Ordinances of 1914, the department was placed in charge of one executive, the Health Commissioner.
