Written and edited by experts in the field, the Handbook of Clinical Anaesthesia provides all the essential practical knowledge required by anaesthetists on co-existing medical conditions, operative procedures, and techniques. The fourth edition retains the concise and comprehensive nature of the third, giving readers all they need to know about each part of the FRCA syllabus in short, digestible, practical entries. The first part covers Patient Conditions; the second Surgical Procedures; and the third Anaesthetic Factors. Each part is subdivided into chapter on each organ system, and each chapter is divided into bite-sized entries. These are in alphabetical order, and cover all common and rare conditions that anaesthetists will encounter within their practice. Avoiding prolonged discussion and multiple references, this is the ideal book to ‘dip into’ either for specific advice or general education, providing quick and reliable information. This is the most thorough handbook to cover the entire FRCA syllabus in a consistent and instructive manner. It continues to be accessible and relevant to all anaesthetists from middle grade trainee up to consultant/specialist.

No one had really heard of Chaminade University—a tiny NAIA Catholic school in Honolulu with fewer than eight hundred undergraduates—until its basketball game against the University of Virginia on December 23, 1982. The Chaminade Silverswords defeated the Cavaliers, then the Division I, No. 1–ranked team in the nation, in what the Washington Post later called “the biggest upset in the history of college basketball.” Virginia was the most heralded team in the country, led by seven?foot?four?inch, three?time College Basketball Player of the Year Ralph Sampson. They had just been paid $50,000—more than double Chaminade’s annual basketball budget—to play an early season tournamen...
Over the Labor Day weekend, sixteen-year-old Karen Lindquist was brutally raped by the sons of the town's elite then denied justice in the name of political expedience. Twenty-five years later she's getting even and getting off. When her latest lover is accused of molesting her teenage daughter, defense investigator Clint Wells is called in. He uncovers a twisted plot of revenge and sexual depravity as he follows a trail of broken lives and broken men. His investigation leads him from the heart of Texas to the sun-drenched coast of Florida; from the Ozark Mountains to the sun-baked desert of Arizona as he discovers the sickening truth about Karen and her quest for vengeance.
A Good Death is a candid and provocative account of the experiences of many terminally ill people Dr Rodney Syme has assisted to end their lives. Over the past thirty years Syme has challenged the law on voluntary euthanasia—at first clandestinely and now publicly—risking prosecution in doing so. He again risks prosecution for writing this book. A Good Death is a moving journey with those who came to Syme for help, and a meditation on what it means in our culture to confront death. It is also a doctor's personal story about the moral dilemmas and ethical choices he faces working within the grey areas of the law. In this important book, Rodney Syme argues for the end of the unofficial 'conspiracy' of silence within the medical profession and the decriminalisation of voluntary euthanasia in Australia. Through Syme's determination to tell the stories of those who he has assisted to die with dignity, A Good Death also draws wider lessons of value for those who find themselves in a similar situation.

Trees Beyond the Wood was written for a conference organised to celebrate twenty years of work since the first major conference on the theme of ancient trees and woodlands held in Sheffield, UK. It was held almost ten years after the landmark 2003 Working and Walking in the Footsteps of Ghosts event which started to raise issues and challenge assumptions about what is 'ancient' or 'natural' and what is meant by the terms 'wood' or 'woodland'. Since then on-going work in a range of disciplines across ecology, biology, landscape history, archaeology, forestry and nature conservation has continued the process of research and evaluation across the subject area. The collection of papers by contributors from across Europe reflects this broad range of interests and disciplines.
