April 1933: Die Nationalsozialisten unter dem Führer Adolf Hitler sind seit knapp drei Monaten an der Macht. Der 19-jährige Herbert Frahm, der seit seiner Schulzeit aktiv im linkspolitischen Bereich tätig ist, begibt sich vorsichtshalber ins Exil nach Norwegen. Dort nimmt er unter dem Kampfnamen Willy Brandt den Widerstand gegen die deutsche Regierung auf. Exile and Gender II: Politics, Education and the Arts
Volume 18 in the series Yearbook of the Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies is entitled Exile and Gender II: Politics, Education and the Arts. It is edited by Charmian Brinson, Jana Barbora Buresova and Andrea Hammel, and is intended as a companion volume to Volume 17, which focused on literature and the press. This new volume considers the life and work of exiled women politicians, academics and artists, among others, examining the ways – both positive and negative - in which their exile affected them. The sixteen contributions, which are in English or German, set out to throw new light on aspects of gendered relations and experiences of women in exile in Great Britain and Ireland. Weibliche Übernahme
Geschichten von Herz und Schmerz werden in diesem Buch genauso erzählt wie Wirtschafts-Storys. Es geht allerdings nicht nur darum, zu erfahren, wie Friede Springer, Liz Mohn, Johanna Quandt und Co. immense Vermögen und Verantwortung geerbt haben. Jedes Kapitel erzählt auch die Geschichte der jeweiligen Ehemänner und ihrer Unternehmen. Am Ende weiß man sehr viel mehr über die deutsche Wirtschaftsgeschichte als zuvor. Da alle Kapitel im Kontext der politischen Situation stehen, ist es auch ein wenig ein historischer Abriss Deutschlands von 1945 bis heute. Dabei ist das Buch spannend und eingängig geschrieben, man liest sich schnell hindurch. Handlungsanweisungen sollte man/frau freilich nicht erwarten. getAbstract empfiehlt das Buch allen, die einmal eine ganz andere Perspektive der deutschen Wirtschaft kennen lernen wollen.
