De bronnen, de mensen, het land
Het onderzoek naar de geschiedenis van het Kromme-Rijngebied staat al decennialang op een hoog niveau. Dit is onder meer te danken aan de onderzoeker en genealoog Kees van Schaik, die al 55 jaar nieuwsgierig en gepassioneerd onderzoek doet naar zijn geboortestreek en de mensen die daar wonen. Zijn nauwkeurige en geduldige onderzoek resulteerde in een aantal hoogwaardige publicaties. Kees heeft in de loop van de jaren vele collega-onderzoekers geïnspireerd en gemotiveerd. Ter gelegenheid van zijn 75ste verjaardag hebben bevriende onderzoekers hun krachten gebundeld en dit liber amicorum voor hem samengesteld. Zeventien auteurs hebben een artikel geschreven dat nieuw licht werpt op de rijke geschiedenis van het Kromme-Rijngebied en omstreken. Familieverhalen, de geschiedenis van de Wijkse tol en boerderij Atteveld in Odijk, de Jutphase ambachtsvrouwe Johanna van Rijn van Jutfaes en het trieste lot van jonge sodomieten uit Huis ter Heide; dit alles en meer passeert de revue. Ook genealogische fijnproevers en mensen die op zoek zijn naar nieuwe bronnen voor eigen onderzoek komen in dit boek aan hun trekken.

The Maritime World of Early Modern Britain
Britain's emergence as one of Europe's major maritime powers has all too frequently been subsumed by nationalistic narratives that focus on operations and technology. This volume, by contrast, offers a daring new take on Britain's maritime past. It brings together scholars from a range of disciplines to explore the manifold ways in which the sea shaped British history, demonstrating the number of approaches that now have a stake in defining the discipline of maritime history. The chapters analyse the economic, social, and cultural contexts in which English maritime endeavour existed, as well as discussing representations of the sea.
