Haunted Bodies

In Haunted Bodies, Anne Goodwyn Jones and Susan V. Donaldson have brought together some of our most highly regarded southern historians and literary critics to consider race, gender, and texts through three centuries and from a wealth of vantage points. Works as diversive as eighteenth-century court petitions and lyrics of 1970s rock music demonstrate how definitions of southern masculinity and femininity have been subject to bewildering shifts and disabling contradictions for centuries.

This project-based thesis will focus on the dialogical curatorial strategies that were designed and implemented for the project "Traveling Coordinates". This thesis will consider "dialogical" strategies to be the on-the-ground, conversation-based approaches to bring together artists, audiences, and curators to a conceptual common ground. The need for consent, or at least of open exchange of perspectives, is based on the unfamiliarity of the curators with the context and the targeted community. This thesis will critically review the artistic, social, and political circumstances that motivated the need for dialogical strategies; analyze their applicability at the different stages of the projec...

Until he won a short story competition with a prize of £50,000, E. Rick Jones didn't have any problems or at least no more than any other neurotic writer who spent most of his life in his writing shed at the end of his garden. The problem was that in order to claim the prize Rick was required to be the British representative at the Digitalquill Freedom Conference in Argentina. Unfortunately, certain ruthless people (who denied they had anything to do with MI6) thought that he was not the right person to represent his country and were happy to use threats and violence to convince him of this. However, there was another group of equally ruthless people who believed it was in his country's interest for him to go to S. America which was the last place he wanted to go because there was a frightening amount of magic realism there and that was one genre of writing he couldn't stand. Both groups regarded Rick as expendable. All he wanted was his shed.
