Elke onderwijsprofessional die betrokken is bij instructie in de basisvaardigheden lezen, spellen en rekenen/wiskunde, zal altijd en telkens opnieuw drie vragen moeten kunnen beantwoorden: Om welke kennis gaat het bij deze leerinhoud, deze taak of dit probleem? Wat is de kwaliteit van de beschikbare voorkennis of gewenste nieuwe kennis? Hoe is via instructie de optimale kwaliteit van die kennis te bereiken? Deze vragen gelden binnen elke onderwijsvisie, voor iedere methode en op alle onderwijsniveaus. De auteurs bieden in EHBI 2.0 een denkkader om de drie centrale vragen te beantwoorden.
