Deliberative Democracy
Today, deliberative democracy is the most widely discussed theory of democracy. Its proponents argue that important decisions of law and policy should ideally turn not on the force of numbers but on the force of the better argument. However, it continues to strike some as little more than wishful thinking. Murales Capitolinos de Ignacio Gomez Jaramillo y Santiago Martinez Delgado (Bogotá, 1938 - 1948)
El objetivo de este libro es reflexionar sobre cómo se manifestó artísticamente el muralismo en Bogotá, y en qué condiciones fueron producidas las imágenes que dan cuenta de él. Desde las perspectiva que ofrece la historia cultural para el análsis del arte, la autora emprende un estudio detallado de la iconografía de tres pinturas murales del Capitolio Nacional, realizadas en 1938 y 1947, y explica el sentido de lo representado por los artistas Ignacio Gómez Jaramillo y Santiago Martinez Delgado, en relación con el liberalismo defensor de ideales como la abolición de la esclavitud, unos de los temas escogidos en el proyecto mural capitolino. El modo como estos artistas plantearon la representaciones visuales, es visto por la autora como una propiación de la historia nacional. El pasado es representado con elementos tradicionales y modernos, propuestos por dos artistas cosmopolitas en contacto con las estéticas del arte del período entres las dos guerras mundiales, y conocedores del arte colombiano que les sirve de fuente para la iconografía.
