The National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio, provides a biographical sketch of American electrical engineer and inventor Charles Franklin Kettering (1876-1958). Kettering invented the first electrical ignition system, the self-starter for automobile engines, and the first practical engine-driven generator.
