Back in print--the standard work on Heino Engel's structure systems. The hundreds of drawings and photographs reproduced in this hardback volume offer almost endless variations on the many structural systems that can keep buildings together: within a few pages of one another, tents, domes and cubes are shown supported by poles, cables, ribs, rafters and beams. Engel's presentation and explanation of this highly complex material differs fundamentally from others' work on the subject in that he focuses entirely upon the functions and design effects of these mechanisms, without regard for technical details: More than an engineering text, this is a catalogue of ideas and forms for architects and dreamers, a David Macaulay book for adults. Structure Systems skips over more commonly treated special designs and completed buildings for typical, representative and surprising shapes. As a reference work or daydream material, it is an indispensable repertoire of forms.

Denmark has long since written international design history. Today, Danish furniture, textiles, and home appliances and utensils from the sixties and seventies are more popular than ever. The beautiful pieces are meanwhile for sale at design galleries and have become a rarity at flea markets. In short, Nordic items for everyday use have become internationally sought-after trophies for sophisticates. This publication provides an extensive overview of those everyday objects that have to this day written design history both in Denmark as well as worldwide. Along with thirty-two leading scholars and journalists, the head of the library and research at the Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen, Lars Dybdahl, advances into the fascinating history of the individual objects. Candida Höfer
All of Candida Höfer's Editions in One Book Candida Höfer's (b. Eberswalde, 1944) shots of deserted libraries, opera houses, concert halls, churches, and museums have made her a member of the international photographic avant-garde. One strand in her acclaimed oeuvre are editions--photographic prints in small formats issued in larger numbers--that Höfer produces to support institutions and art publishers. Gathered for the first time in this book, with an introductory essay by Anne Ganteführer-Trier, the around one hundred such editions she created between 1987 and 2020 offer a representative cross-section of Candida Höfer's art. Candida Höfer studied in the first photography class of Bernd Becher at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Her works have been exhibited at documenta 11 and in 2003 she represented Germany at the 50th Biennale di Venezia alongside Martin Kippenberger.
