Pluriel

Ce livre réunit en version originale ainsi qu’en traduction une sélection de poèmes qui mettent en jeu les notions d’identité et d’altérité au Canada. S’y côtoient des textes d’auteurs des deux principales communautés linguistiques du pays, mais aussi de poètes autochtones ou migrants. La pluralité des voix, la diversité des lectures possibles et la richesse du matériau montrent bien que l’identité et l’altérité constituent un horizon ouvert, signe d’une société en évolution, donc bien vivante. -- Pluriel provides a composite snapshot, taken from a few particular angles, of the variety of poems written in Canada over the past few decades. In shaping this anthology the editors were attracted to the diverse cultural and social responses evident in the work of poets writing in English and French, both across Canada, and in particular in Quebec and other French-speaking regions of the country. Each poem is offered in its original language and in translation.

As an interdisciplinary area of research, translation studies attracts students and scholars with a wide range of backgrounds, who then need to face the challenge of accounting for a complex object of enquiry that does not adapt itself well to traditional methods in other fields of investigation. This book addresses the needs of such scholars – whether they are students doing research at postgraduate level or more experienced researchers who want to familiarize themselves with methods outside their current field of expertise. The book promotes a discerning and critical approach to scholarly investigation by providing the reader not only with the know-how but also with insights into how new...

The cultural plurality of literature produced today in Canada and Quebec transforms not only these two literary spaces, but also, their relation to one another. By bringing together methodologies, theoretical approaches and concepts usually reserved to one or the other critical context, this bilingual collection of texts of Comparing Migration (the result of a general call for papers) displays the differences but also the connections between French and English contemporary writing in Canada.

Reembedding Translation Process Research

Reembedding Translation Process Research is a rich collection of empirical research papers investigating important new facets of the relationship between translation and cognition. The common thread running through the collection is the notion of “re-embedding” the acts of translating and interpreting—and the ways we understand them. That is, they all aim to re-situate these acts within what we now know about the brain, the powerful relationship of brain and body, and the complex interaction between cognition and the environment in which it is embedded. Each chapter focuses on a particular aspect of the overall notion of re-embedding, thereby expanding the breadth of empirical research about translating. This book refuses Descartes' distinction between mind and brain, and reaffirms the highly dynamic, emergent, and interactive nature of cognitive processes in translation. The overarching conclusion is that translation studies should reconsider, re-embed, any model of translation processes that arises without properly accommodating the interdependence of brain, body, and environment in the emergence of cognition.
