Deliberative Ecological Economics
Founded on the idea that democracy and value diversity realized through debate are essential for the pursuit of an authentic conception of sustainable development, this volume explores both novel and established means by which economics can combine with deliberative decision-making processes to generate shared and solid visions of sustainability. Contributed by specialists from all over the world, the volume deals with three broad themes. The first part focuses on the use of deliberative processes in ecological–economic analyses of environmental decision making. The second part considers links between deliberation and the politics of sustainable development. And the third part further develops theoretical aspects in deliberative ecological economics. With case studies on ecological management from countries as far apart as Namibia in Southern Africa to New South Wales in Australia, this volume advances ways of generating shared visions of sustainability.

Water and Conflict in the Middle East
This volume explores the role of water in the Middle East's current economic, political and environmental transformations, which are set to continue in the near future. In addition to examining water conflict from within the domestic contexts of Iraq, Yemen and Syria-- all experiencing high levels of instability today--the contributors shed further light on how conflict over water resources has influenced political relations in the region. They interrogate how competition over water resources may precipitate or affect war in the Middle East, and assess whether or how resource vulnerability impacts fragile states and societies in the region and beyond. The Political Ecology of Informal Waste Recyclers in India
The sector of solid waste management in India falls entirely into the informal category, and despite the high number of people involved in it, there is very little statistical data available on the safety or hygiene standards in this sector. Calls for integrating recyclers of solid waste management into the formal sector have largely been ignored, causing hazardous working conditions, unequal and inadequate pay, and, in a broader sense, a less sustainable environment. In a study conducted during 2009-18, Federico Demaria finds the issue of waste management is more of a political one rather than an ecological one; and there are power relations, social and cultural predispositions, and economic drivers at play within it. He focusses on two emblematic case studies - ship-breaking in Alang, Gujarat, and solid waste management in New Delhi - to argue that the environment is a politicized and contested space, rendering its participants victims to exploitation and isolation. His case studies draw on theories in political ecology and environmental economics to create a critical understanding of the technical, social, and political underpinnings in solid waste management in India.
