Ecosystem and Cultural Services

This book describes cases and experiences in connection with environmental and cultural ecosystem services in Argentina. It contributes to the debate in connection with different approaches to analyse ecosystem services, focusing on the environment, the Law and social perspectives and concerns. Among the topics discussed are the implementation of the National Forests Act, the regulation and recognition of ecosystem services, the role of indigenous people, the policies in place for nature and forest conservation in different regions of Argentina. Water is essential for life and its access is being affected by insufficient investments, contamination, and climate change worldwide. This book analyses corruption practices in water management and services in Argentina and a selection of case studies from other countries in South America. One of the main objectives of this manuscript was to carry out a study of the cases of concessions and nationalizations that cover two geographical areas; the City of Buenos Aires and 17 Counties of the Province of Buenos Aires and 15 cities of the Province of Santa Fe, in Argentina. The text analyses different theoretical and empirical experiences and combines academic, social and technical approaches. It concentrates on two fundamental aspects merged in its study: the provision of a public service such as water and corruption. These were analysed from the legal field, using heuristic tools that are not commonly used in the discipline. This multi-theoretical approach can be of interest of academics, professors and general public.

This book makes an original contribution to the discussion about agro-food exporting countries’ governmental policy. It presents a historicized and internationally contextualized exploration of the political economy of agrarian change in three Latin American countries: Argentina, Praguay, and Uruguay. By comparatively examining how these states have acted in a context of global driven market forces and historically formed institutions, the monograph illuminates the differing capacities of state autonomy under the present era of globalized agriculture.

Sustainable Consumption

  • Categories: Law

This book provides a broad understanding of whether law plays a role in influencing patterns of sustainable consumption and, if so, how. Bringing together legal scholars from the Global South and the Global North, it examines these questions in the context of national, transnational and international law, within single and plural legal systems, and across a range of sector-specific issue areas. The chapters identify how traditional legal disciplines (e.g. constitutional law, consumer law, public procurement, international public law), sector-related regulation (e.g. energy, water, waste), and legal rules in specific areas (e.g. eco-labelling and packing) engage with the concept of sustainabl...

Estudios sociales

Latin American Comics in the Twenty-First Century

How twenty-first-century Latin American comics transgress social, political, and cultural frontiers. Given comics’ ability to cross borders, Latin American creators have used the form to transgress the political, social, spatial, and cultural borders that shape the region. A groundbreaking and comprehensive study of twenty-first-century Latin American comics, Latin American Comics in the Twenty-First Century documents how these works move beyond national boundaries and explores new aspects of the form, its subjects, and its creators. Latin American comics production is arguably more interconnected and more networked across national borders than ever before. Analyzing works from Argentina, ...
