Imagery

In 1985, winemaker Joe Benziger and Sonoma artist Bob Nugent struck on the idea of putting original art on special releases of Imagery Estate wines. The goal was straight-forward: commission the world's modern art luminaries to create works for reproduction onto wine labels. Two decades and 160 labels later, they have assembled a staggering collection of contemporary art, from the likes of Sol Lewitt, Terry Winters, Nancy Graves, John Baldessari, Judy Pfaff, and Bob Arneson. This book highlights 133 works of art, the best of the Imagery collection. The images are big and lush, and accompanied by biographical sketches of the artists' careers, as well as a short description of their individual ideas and methods. The pictorial index shows the works in their label-form, from 1985 to the most recent vintages. These images are evocations of wine's multi-faceted ability to inspire us.

Many pieces of important artwork, including Miro's 'Personnages Oiseaux' and Rembrandt's 'Head of Christ', are displayed not in famous museums or galleries, but in the collections of academic institutions. Intended to assist art lovers in planning more productive and enjoyable excursions, this guide provides essential information on the art on display at over 730 colleges and universities. Listings are organised by state, city, and academic institution and include practical information (parking, hours, fees) as well as detailed descriptions of holdings, exhibitions, and facilities for each school. Also included are museum locator maps and a fully cross-referenced index.

The first guide of its kind in over a half century, this work contains 1,108 descriptions in 24 categories. It presents a comprehensive picture of museums, galleries, and related facilities in American universities and colleges. The first 10 chapters offer an overview of the field, dealing with such aspects as history, mission, types, governance, and much more. It is an essential in-house reference tool for all campus museums and galleries and should be found in university, college, and public libraries as well. Students and their visitors may be surprised at the wealth and variety of culture readily available on their own campuses, and this guide makes the investigatory task easy. The direc...
