Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF)
The STECF EWG-14-17 met at the Thünen Institute in Hamburg, Germany, from 20-24 October 2014, addressing 1) short-term revision of the Annual Reports guidelines and standard tables (based on EWG 14-07 and work prepared by an ad-hoc expert) and 2) long-term preparations for National Work Plans and Annual Reports. The underlying aim of both Terms of Reference was simplification compared to the current DCF guidelines and templates and improved use of the information contained in MS Work Plans and Annual Reports by data end-users. The report of EWG-14-17 was reviewed by the STECF during its November 2014 plenary meeting.
Report on the Workshop on Transversal Variables
The Workshop on the Transversal Variables took place in Zagreb from the 19th to 23rd of January, 2015 mainly to tackle the issues related to the increasing need of having fisheries fleet economic data and fisheries biologic data on a level of disaggregation that would allow a proper interoperability between datasets to underpin bioeconomic modelling. For that, several analyses were carried out and conclusions taken. These analyses were : 1. comparison of economic and biological effort data calls both with respect to their level of resolution and the landings and effort values obtained from equivalent aggregations was performed. This was compared to what would be needed in order to undertake bioeconomic modelling for a choosen management plan. 2. The description of how MS are calculating effort variables and a proposal on the way forward to harmonize approaches, 3. Conclusions on how to harmonize levels of resolution, the variable definitions and the codification in use amongst data calls, in order to make them comparable and based on coherent standard codifications.

The STECF Expert Working Group (EWG 14-18) met in Brussels, Belgium, from the 25th to the 28th of November to: i) assess three amended National Programmes (NP) for 2015; ii) assess the 2013 Annual Report (AR) from Bulgaria which was not ready for evaluation in the previous STECF EWG 14-07 and iii) to provide expertise to the Commission for the preparation of the future EU Multi-annual programme, namely on issues such as: Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs), Aquaculture, Availability of Data and Geographical Areas. The Expert Working Group was reviewed by the STECF by written procedure in January 2015.

The Expert Working Group meeting of the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries EWG 13-07 was held from 1 to 5 - July in Brussels, Belgium, to evaluate the MS Technical Reports for 2012 of the DCF. The EWG report was reviewed by the STECF during its 44th plenary meeting held from 4 to 8 November 2013 in Brussels (Belgium).
