Originally published in 1983, this is the first serious catalogue of Crusader coinage since Schlumberger (1878). It does not repreat the historical background information which can be found in Schlumberger, but concentrates on numismatic discussion, giving an up-to-date explanation of how the various series of coins are classified. It is primarily an essay on numismatic classification, accompanied by an inventory with maps of hoards ans site-finds from territory under Latin control (Aleppo or Bulgaria). There is also a concordance with Schlumberger's plates.
This book is a major reassessment of the archaeological and documentary evidence for the economic history of eighth-century Europe and the Mediterranean.
Nineteen papers covering every aspect of this topic: coinage and history, chronology, styea hoards, styea phases and goups, metal analysis, Royal coins, names on coins, and many other notes. From the 10th Oxford Symposium on Coinage and Monetary History.
