Aleksandr Orlov has become one of the most loved figures in British culture and his catchphrase - Simples! - can be heard from the playground to the office. Written in his inimitable voice (as dictated to his sidekick Sergei), his autobiography will offer the same humour as his TV ads, giving us the full story of his ancestor's Journey of Courageousness from the Kalahari to Russia, the low-down on his life as entrepreneur and founder of comparethemeerkat.com and his love of grubs and cravats. 'My name is Aleksandr Orlov. I live and make work in Moscow. I have a success business. I have a mansion decorate with many fine things. I have a naturally majestic posture. But I would have none of these things if it were not for my family. This book is dedicated to them. I also wish to inspire next generation of young businesskats. I am hope that this book will show what can come of courage, hard work and a good fur-care regime. I am also hope that with royalties I will be able to re-marble roof on Orlov family mansion'

Reinventing Collapse

A guide to the decline of the American empire for individuals, families and communities The United States is in steep decline. Plagued by runaway debt, a shrinking economy, and environmental catastrophes to rival Chernobyl, the United States has been retracing the trajectory of the Soviet Union in the early 1980s toward national bankruptcy and political dissolution. By comparing a collapse that has run its course to one that is now unfolding, Dmitry Orlov holds a unique lens up to America's present and future. As Orlov's predictions continue to come true, his writing continues to gain mainstream acceptance. This revised and updated edition of Reinventing Collapse examines the circumstances o...

A famous theorem of D. Orlov describes the derived bounded category of coherent sheaves on projective hypersurfaces in terms of an algebraic construction called graded matrix factorizations. In this thesis, I implement a proposal of E. Segal to prove Orlov's theorem using a globalization of the category of graded matrix factorizations (graded D-branes). Let X & sub; P be a projective hypersurface. First, Segal established an equivalence between Orlov's category of graded matrix factorizations and the category of graded D-branes on the canonical bundle KP to P . The next equivalence is between graded D-branes on KP and graded D-branes on the normal bundle to X in KP . The final equivalence is a generalization of Knorrer periodicity, between graded D-branes on the normal bundle and Db coh(X). We also discuss an equivalence between graded D-branes on a general smooth quasi-projective variety and on the formal neighborhood of the singular locus of the zero fiber of the potential.

The Five Stages of Collapse

A user’s guide to economic, political, social and cultural collapse. In the face of political impotence, resource depletion, and catastrophic climate change, many of us have become reconciled to an uncertain future. However, popular perception of how this future might actually unfold varies wildly from "a severe and prolonged recession," to James Howard Kunstler's "long emergency," to the complete breakdown of civilization. In The Five Stages of Collapse , Dmitry Orlov posits a taxonomy of collapse, offering a surprisingly optimistic perspective on surviving the sweeping changes of the day with health and sanity intact. Arguing that it is during periods of disruption and extreme uncertaint...

Summary of Edward M. Hallowell, M.D., Sue Hallowell & Melissa Orlov's Married to Distraction

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 When a couple is in a good place, they feel secure and fulfilled. To feel secure and fulfilled in a relationship, both people need to feel that the other person thinks highly of them, cares deeply for them, and thinks they are proficient at something. #2 The first step in saving your relationship is to focus on it. If you cannot sustain attention over time, love will falter here. But if you can create genuine connection, you’ve got it made. The rewards of love are far more important than most people believe. #3 Today, love and stability are difficult to find. You may be hoping for some fun, but today, fun often gives way to fear. As you read this, you may be wondering if any of the hopes we’ve mentioned are realistically possible given the frenzy and anxiety of modern life. #4 The dream of love is a dream that every person in the world can make come true. Don’t give up on it. If you’ve read this far, you haven’t. You’re a little frustrated or maybe a lot frustrated with your difficult in turning your relationship into what it could be or keeping it where you want it to be.
