Time Detectives

Reports on some notable archaeological finds of recent years. The author describes how today's archaeologists use science and technology to recapture the past, for instance, by studying ancient diets from bone collagen and reconstructing lost landscapes from fossilized seeds and grains.

Algebraic, Number Theoretic, and Topological Aspects of Ring Theory

This volume has been curated from two sources: presentations from the Conference on Rings and Polynomials, Technische Universität Graz, Graz, Austria, July 19 –24, 2021, and papers intended for presentation at the Fourth International Meeting on Integer-valued Polynomials and Related Topics, CIRM, Luminy, France, which was cancelled due to the pandemic. The collection ranges widely over the algebraic, number theoretic and topological aspects of rings, algebras and polynomials. Two areas of particular note are topological methods in ring theory, and integer valued polynomials. The book is dedicated to the memory of Paul-Jean Cahen, a coauthor or research collaborator with some of the conference participants and a friend to many of the others. This collection contains a memorial article about Paul-Jean Cahen, written by his longtime research collaborator and coauthor Jean-Luc Chabert.

Israel

“The most comprehensive account of Israeli history yet published” (Efraim Karsh, The Sunday Telegraph). Fleeing persecution in Europe, thousands of Jewish immigrants settled in Palestine after World War II. Renowned historian Martin Gilbert crafts a riveting account of Israel’s turbulent history, from the birth of the Zionist movement under Theodor Herzl to the unexpected declaration of its statehood in 1948, and through the many wars, conflicts, treaties, negotiations, and events that have shaped its past six decades—including the Six Day War, the Intifada, Suez, and the Yom Kippur War. Drawing on a wealth of first-hand source materials, eyewitness accounts, and his own personal and...

Electrochemistry of Nanomaterials

Engineering of nanophase materials and devices is of vital interest in electronics, semiconductors and optics, catalysis, ceramics and magnetism. Research associated with nanoparticles has widely spread and diffused into every field of scientific research, forming a trend of nanocrystal engineered materials. Electrochemical methods are widely used for the preparation of nanoparticles and the electrochemical properties of such nanomaterials are most relevant for their applications. This comprehensive reference work will appeal to advanced graduate students and researchers in the field specialized in electrochemistry, materials physics and materials science.

Fast Ion Transport in Solids

The main motivation for the organization of the Advanced Research Workshop in Belgirate was the promotion of discussions on the most recent issues and the future perspectives in the field of Solid State lonics. The location was chosen on purpose since Belgirate was the place were twenty years ago, also then under the sponsorship of NATO, the very first international meeting on this important and interdisciplinary field took place. That meeting was named "Fast Ion Transport in Solids" and gathered virtually everybody at that time having been active in any aspect of motion of ions in solids. The original Belgirate Meeting made for the first time visible the technological potential related to t...
