"We all have ghosts. Some people learn to live with them, others bury them. For a few, though, there is no hiding place. For them, the past lies waiting."A British man dies in a blaze at a remote Italian farmhouse which local people believe is haunted. A drifter with an obsession with fire is charged with murder. He says he's innocent -- and the dead man's diaries hold the clue to the dark truth of what happened. Crime writer Lee Armstrong thinks he's found his next book. But as he investigates he comes face-to-face with his own dark side and must confront the conflicting demands of love, justice and revenge. Lee finds he is the writer who has just become the story.Review:'It's compulsive reading -- it absorbs you. A great book' - Kat Orman, Radio Oxford.

Intellectual Disability and Social Policies of Inclusion

This book explores why, after forty years of funded policies of social inclusion, persons living with an intellectual disability are still separated from the social fabric of neoliberal societies. David Treanor shows how the nature of the reform process is driven unnecessarily by the economic neoliberal paradigm, the cultural misconceptions of intellectual disability, and the inattention accorded to personal relationships between persons living with and without an intellectual disability. Treanor utilizes John Macmurray’s personalist philosophy, Julia Kristeva’s ontology of disability and Michele Foucault’s concept of bio-power to explain this phenomenon. The concepts in this book challenge current approaches to social inclusion and have radical implications for future practices.

My Home in L'Arche

Fifty years ago, L’Arche was born in a small French town called Trosly when Jean Vanier invited two men with intellectual disabilities living in a Mental Institution to come and live with him. One hundred and forty three L’Arche Communities now exist in over forty countries. Sharing stories has become an essential feature of life within L’Arche Communities and forms the basis for developing lasting mutual relationships, not only between core members, assistants and other members of a Community home, but also within the broader L’Arche Community. Within our L’Arche Communities in Australia we have developed a Remembering, Celebrating and Dreaming process that encourages core members...

Live at the forbidden City offers a singular look at the rapidly evolving Chinese popular music scene, as seen through the eyes of one of the first progressive Western musicians to perform extensively in both China and Taiwan. In the 1980s and 90s, American author and musician Dennis Rea played concerts in venues ranging from sports arenas to underground nightclubs to TV broadcasts - frequently under bizarre circumstances and the constant threat of harassment by Communist Party authorities. Spiced with informative reflections on Chinese music and culture, Rea interweaves depictions of his musical adventures with an insider's look at China's emergent rock music phenomenon and an eyewitness account of the violent civil uprising in Chengdu at the same time as the events at Tiananmen Square.
