Derek Hanebury is a Vancouver Island writer of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction. Something Else Altogether is his first solo collection of short stories, following the 2020 publication of Both Sides Now (RCN), which was a compilation of stories co-authored with Vicki Drybrough, and Libbie Morin, and the 2006 publication of Nocturnal Tonglen (Ekstasis) a collection of poems. His first novel, Ginger Goodwin: Beyond the Forbidden Plateau, (Arsenal Pulp) went to a second printing. He has a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from UBC and taught writing at North Island College on Vancouver Island until his retirement in 2017.
Nocturnal Tonglen
Nocturnal Tonglen is a stirring first book of poetry by Derek Hanebury, dealing with the disappearance of a young woman, his sister-in-law, Carolyn Pruyser. Canadian Marxists and the Search for a Third Way
Focusing on four individuals, Canadian Marxists and the Search for a Third Way describes the lives and ideas of Ernest Winch, Bill Pritchard, Bob Russell, and Arthur Mould and examines their efforts to put their ideas into practice. Campbell begins by looking at their childhoods in Great Britain, particularly their religious upbringing. He considers their family life, their attitudes toward women and ethnic minorities, what they were reading, and what effect that reading had on their theory and practice.
