OF THE HEART is a stirring reflection of a heart in repose, contemplating the music of life with its joys and sorrows, notes and rests. I am often reminded that in music there are beautiful melodies, harmonies and movements that touch the deep; and yet, the rests and silences are just as important as the notes played. We come away from times of solitude refreshed by stillness... with joy for the journey. Book Reviews Dianna Huhn has dipped into the treasury of her life to express longing, fulfillment and tribute. Of the Heart is a tenderly wrenching work of art that becomes a sanctuary of expression, both safe and hallowed. The prose and photographs capture soul-deep glimpses of love and los...
An unforgettable true story that will touch your heart and make you believe in love’s enduring legacy, and in the power of prayer. In 1928, 16-year-old Minka was on a picnic in the woods when she was assaulted and raped. And suddenly this innocent farm girl—who still thought the stork brought babies—was pregnant. The baby was secretly born, named Betty Jane, and given up for adoption. For decades, Minka wrote letters trying to get news of her daughter; she kept loving and praying for her, even though she never dared believe they would meet again. Until nearly eighty years later, when Minka whispered her secret, impossible prayer for the first time: Lord, I’d like to see Betty Jane be...

The Small Arms Survey 2013 explores the many faces of armed violence outside the context of armed conflict. Chapters on the use of firearms in intimate partner violence, the evolution of gangs in Nicaragua, Italian organised crime groups, and trends in armed violence in South Africa describe the dynamics and effects of gun violence in the home and on the street. Many of the chapters in the 'weapons and markets' section zero in on the use of specific weapons by particular armed actors, such as drug-trafficking organisations and insurgents. These include chapters on the prices of arms and ammunition at illicit markets in Lebanon, Pakistan and Somalia; illicit weapons recovered in Mexico and the Philippines; and the impacts of improvised explosive devices on civilians. Chapters on the Second Review Conference of the UN Programme of Action and the industrial demilitarisation industry round out the 2013 volume.
Beautiful bird and animal designs, inspired by the African world, in crewel and Jacobean embroidery. Animals and birds are popular subjects in crewel embroidery, and here Hazel introduces needleworkers to the beautiful, exotic creatures found in the African wild. Following the Jacobean embroidery style for which Hazel is well known, and incorporating the subtle influence of the fractal designs found in zentangle art, Hazel brings beads and other three-dimensi...
