6. Ägyptologische Tempeltagung
Die Analyse agyptischer Tempel konzentriert sich zumeist auf Wandreliefs, wahrend die Bedeutung und der Gebrauch der dekorierten (und undekorierten) Raume oft unklar bleiben. Die Beitrage in diesem 6. Tempeltagungsband, die auf eine 2002 in Leiden gehaltene Konferenz zuruckgehen, beziehen sich auf verschiedene Weise auf die Funktion altagyptischer Tempelraume, die von den Stiftern und Baumeisternbeabsichtigte Funktion und den tatsachlichen Gebrauch im Laufe der Zeit. Angaben zur Raumfunktion liefern uns zum Einen die Wandreliefs und Inschriften; zum Andern erweitern neue Ausgrabungen unsere Kenntnisse uber die verschiedenen Aktivitaten im Tempelbereich. Auch Texte auf Papyri und Objekte geben wichtige Hinweise uber die Funktion der heiligen Raume. Die vorgestellten Tempel, Szenen und Texte gehoren zu verschiedenen Abschnitten der pharaonischen, ptolemaischen, romischen und meroitischen Perioden. Die insgesamt 17 Beitrage sind reich illustriert; die dreisprachigen Indizes enthalten Stichworter, Gotter- und Konigsnamen, Toponyme, Museumsnummern und agyptische Worter.

Mathias Kessler
The work of Mathias Kessler (*1968) critiques and re-imagines the contemporary concept of nature. Quoting from art history, philosophy, and ecopolitical debates, he restages representations of natural processes with humor and gravitas. Romantic painting, land art, and digital renderings compete and collide in order to unhinge familiar oppositions: nature/culture; representation/experience; ideology/aesthetics. For example, the viewer does not know whether the images are photographs of a spectacle of nature or perhaps digitalized artificial landscapes: in the installation The Sea of Ice, there is a picture featuring icebergs as lifeless Hollywood sets staged in wan light, and the viewer is invited to combine looking at the miniature reproduction of a masterpiece in the freezer of a refrigerator with a sip from a bottle of the beer cooling in the lower compartment.
Communications and Multimedia Security
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th IFIP TC-6 TC-11 International Conference on Communications and Multimedia Security, CMS 2005, held in Salzburg, Austria in September 2005. The 28 revised full papers and 13 two-page abstracts presented together with 4 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 143 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on applied cryptography, DRM and e-commerce, media encryption, multimedia security, privacy, biometrics and access control, network security, mobile security, and XML security.
One Who Loves Knowledge
The thirty-nine articles in this volume, One Who Loves Knowledge, have been contributed by colleagues, students, friends, and family in honor of Richard Jasnow, professor of Egyptology at Johns Hopkins University. Despite his claiming to be just a demoticist, Richard Jasnow's research interests and specialties are broad, spanning religious and historical topics, along with new editions of demotic texts, including most particularly the Book of Thoth. A number of the authors demonstrate their appreciation for Jasnow's contributions to the understanding of this difficult text. The volume also includes other studies on literature, Ptolemaic history, and even the god Thoth himself, and features detailed images and abundant hieroglyphic, hieratic, demotic, Coptic, and Greek texts.

Als langjahriger Ordinarius fur Agyptologie in Munchen und Generalsekretar des Internationalen Agyptologenverbands gehort Gunter Burkard zu den im deutschen Sprachraum und daruber hinaus angesehenen Vertretern seines Fachs. In der Festschrift zu seinem 65. Geburtstag widmen sich 47 Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus dem In- und Ausland in 41 Beitragen den im Titel genannten Themenbereichen, die zugleich die Schwerpunkte der Interessen des Jubilars umschreiben: da ist zum einen geographisch der thebanische Raum, und zum anderen inhaltlich Literatur und die Arbeit mit Texten, nicht nur auf Ostraka. Ein Schriftenverzeichnis Gunter Burkards rundet den Band ab.
