Digital Privacy
This book documents the R&D outcome of the PRIME Project, an R&D project partially funded by the European Union’s Sixth Framework Programme and the Swiss Federal Office for Education and Science. PRIME has focused on privacy-enhancing identity management techniques and systems to support users’ sovereignty over their personal privacy and enterprises’ privacy-compliant data processing. During the course of four years, the project has involved over a hundred researchers and professionals from 22 major European academic and industrial organizations conducting R&D work in areas relevant to digital privacy. The book presents 28 detailed chapters organized in five parts: Introductory summary, legal, social, and economic aspects, realization of privacy-enhancing user-centric identity management, exploitation of PRIME results for applications, conclusions drawn and an outlook on future work. As the first coherent presentation of the topic, this book will serve as a valuable source of reference and inspiration for anybody working on digital privacy.

Metrology is the study of measurement. It includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement and may be divided into three subfields: Scientific or fundamental metrology concerns the establishment of measurement units, unit systems, development of new measurement methods, realization of measurement standards and the transfer of traceability from these standards to users in society. Operation Titan
The immense Allied landing on the coast of France signals invasion to the enemy, and the mighty German panzer divisions begin a furious race northward to the beaches of Normandy. Smith (1919-2012) joined the R.A.F. in 1939 as a wireless operator/air gunner and commenced service in early 1940, serving in Britain, Africa, and finally the Far East. At the end of the war, he married and worked for several years in South Africa before returning to England to fulfill his lifelong ambition to write. Two years later, his first play was produced and his first novel published. Since then, he wrote over forty novels, about eighty short stories, and two plays. Two novels, 633 Squadron and The Devil Doll, were made into films, and one, A Killing for the Hawks, won the Mark Twain Literary Award.

The Three Cs of Higher Education
The thirteen papers in this collection address three aspects of higher education, primarily in Europe but also in the United States. These aspects are competition, collaboration, and complementarity, both on the level of policy and on the practical level of impact on students and staff. Competition, especially for funding, occurs between and within institutions. Collaboration, more than a basic code of conduct, has become a political principle across Europe. Complementarity in the market for higher education facilitates this collaboration. The themes and contexts in higher education for which the three Cs are examined include missions and identities, response to external forces, the impact of evaluation systems and ranking schemes, the effects of globalisation, intercultural awareness and gender imbalance, and the challenges of student participation.
