White Sharks

There are few species that strike such fear into humans as the Great White shark. And yet this fearsome predator is also greatly threatened by human activity. Moreover, its seemingly random attacks can be shown to follow quite definite and understandable patterns of behaviour. Based on years of observing and studying Great Whites, White Sharks is an original contribution towards understanding the behaviour and habits of this much-feared and greatly misunderstood species. Illustrated throughout with magnificent images of White sharks, often in spectacular aerial breaches, this book is essential reading for anyone who is concerned about the health of our marine environment and understanding White shark behaviour.

Conjoint Measurement

by Paul E. Green I am honored and pleased to respond to authors request to write a Fore word for this excellent collection of essays on conjoint analysis and related topics. While a number of survey articles and sporadic book chapters have appeared on the subject, to the best of my knowledge this book represents the first volume of contributed essays on conjoint analysis. The book re flects not only the geographical diversity of its contributors but also the variety and depth of their topics. The development of conjoint analysis and its application to marketing and business research is noteworthy, both in its eclectic roots (psychometrics, statistics, operations research, economics) and the ...

Price Management in Financial Services

The financial services industry is undergoing a period of dramatic change. Price Management in Financial Services shows how to utilize the modern techniques of value-based pricing to design professional pricing processes that go beyond the industry's current norm of purely risk and cost based pricing. The authors provide insight into strategic pricing concepts such as market segmentation, product bundling, multi-channel pri...

"You are our warrior," Debbie said to him. "You and Sari. Do not easily let them take the Children of Israel, the future of our country." It was absurd and impromptu, this word. Just there the flames, the enemy, and death. Yet words can surprise, can be more then words and this one seared through them like a bright hot poker and Debbie rushed back and added her hands to theirs, both her hands to all of theirs, and in the warmth of it they were instantly one: a single heart, a single brain, a single breast, one being, one purpose, one common goal. Jacob's hands went on top, and from his lips came the torch itself, for in hiding places and ghettos and death camps, in this black Passover week of 1942, in Hitler's death trap known as Poland, invincible forces were set in motion. This word, this concept, this Israel was riveted into an alloy stronger than any steel, an alloy to forge a great nation, a nation that their every action helped to build. "To Zion!" Jacob shouted, and their hosannas clamored into the night. --From Two Hands Full of Sunshine

The Holocaust consisted of two phases. The second phase is best known, symbolized by Auschwitz. The earlier phase, the mass shootings of Jewish people in or near their villages, has drawn less attention, even though it accounted for a third of the six million who were murdered. Two Hands Full of Sunshine a meticulously researched novel that was two decades in the writing, attempts to tell the story of those living in the destroyed shtetls. Here we meet, in the shtetl of Canaan, the rabbi and his three daughters, Katerina, Debbie, and Mittie, as Volume 1 opens in the week before Passover of 1942. It is market Day and also the wedding day of Katerina to the love of her life, and the people are...

Nicole

Sharks are among the most persecuted animals on Earth. Nicole’s block-buster story lifts the lid on the shocking details of the trade in shark fins, and raises awareness of the plight of sharks in the 21st century. In November 2003 a female Great White Shark was tagged near Dyer Island in South Africa. Her tag popped up in February 2004, just south of Western Australia. The shark, later to be named Nicole (after shark enthusiast Nicole Kidman), had swum an epic 11,000 km. Scientists were even more surprised when she was identified back in South Africa in August 2004 – she had covered 22,000 km in less than nine months, using pinpoint navigation both ways. Since then, many Great Whites have been tagged and have shown a propensity for undertaking long migrations – but none has yet matched Nicole's amazing feat. This story incorporates a blend of science, actual events and real people, along with conjecture as to what might have happened on Nicole's momentous journey.
