Landscape has been at ease as a subject in its own right in European art since the 18th century. Between February 2010 and January 2012 the Märkische Museum in Witten organized six exhibitions within which 45 protagonists of contemporary German and international art were introduced and directly linked to the museum collection. The result was a laboratory-like bridging of classical and the latest contemporary positions, including, for example, those of Martin Boyce, Sven Drühl, Eberhard Havekost, Jürgen Meyer and Michael Sailstorfer. The artists invited, who also functioned as curators, thus created viewing connections, elective affinities and references of various kinds to the preceding generations of artists. The book documents all the works with detailed text and image contributions. Steffen Lenk - My Kind of Disneyland
With the highly acclaimed exhibition 'My Kind of Disneyland' in the Märkisches Museum in Witten, documented in detail in this publication on the basis of different installation views, the Berlin artist Steffen Lenk has undertaken a bold experiment: Alongside his own works, Lenk has presented works by esteemed and prestigious artist colleagues and thus created a modern chamber of marvels the likes of which have never been seen before. Both similarities and differences can be found here, but always a lively dialogue concerning contemporary painting and sculpture. Lenk's art is apparently meant to embrace everything: pop, high and trash culture, uniqueness and mass production, plastics and oil paints.
