This book addresses the unique challenges faced by Africa regarding peaceful self-determination. Unlike other regions, Africa has seen limited success in nonviolent self-determination campaigns. Since 1989, only three African nations - Namibia, Eritrea, and South Sudan - have joined the UN after enduring prolonged and violent struggles for independence. In a world characterized by constant change, border alterations typically require armed conflicts in postcolonial Africa. In response to this disconcerting trend, the book offers pragmatic blueprints for achieving peace, emphasizing constitutional approaches to navigate the delicate balance between sovereignty and self-determination. The work delves into the complexities of five self-determination struggles spanning three African countries, providing valuable insights into the challenges faced. It distils six critical lessons from these case studies and presents fourteen blueprint proposals tailored to address the unique dynamics of postcolonial Africa, where reconciling sovereignty and self-determination remains a pressing concern.

This book examines the nature of the secret services and the role of the secret police in Britain, Russia, and Germany during the interwar years. It traces the growth of the secret services and police in these countries, indicating how they differed in their development. The SIS (MI6), MI5 and Special Branch in England appeared more like a Gentleman’s Club from Eton and Oxbridge, especially when compared to the German Gestapo, SS-SD, and Abwehr in Germany, and the Cheka, GPU, NKVD and KGB in Stalinist Russia. It was the emerging signals of another World War which defined the shapes of their secret services, which later had long-term consequences for the Cold War.

European Organic Production Statistics, 1993-1996
The European market for organic food has grown rapidly in terms of both supply and demand during the 1990s. However, national markets vary considerably. In some countries, the market share is quite high while in others the market for organic products hardly exists. This book identifies and compares the national markets for main the organic products in 18 European countries - the 15 EU countries plus Switzerland, Norway and the Czech Republic - on the basis of the most comprehensive data collection ever presented covering the period 1993 to 1997/98. The results show that in order to meet European demand, major efforts in organising a transparent international market and in developing appropriate marketing strategies are required.

Diese Ausgangslage lässt rechtstheoretische bzw. -methodische Unzulänglichkeiten befürchten. Ausgehend von einer neuen Definition des Rechtsbegriffes Interesse werden daher auf rechtstheoretischer, rechtsmethodischer, verfassungsrechtlicher und einfachgesetzlicher Ebene bestehende Strukturen analysiert und neue Ideen für die Gesetzesanwendung, Gesetzesvorschläge sowie für den Bereich des Ambush Marketing neue Vertragstypen vorgestellt. Für den Bereich des Ambush Marketings wird zudem eine neue Herangehensweise vorgeschlagen: die Theorie der relativen Branchenexklusivität.
