Ikan sepatung (Pristolepis grootii) merupakan salah satu jenis ikan native perairan Indonesia. Nama ikan ini secara internasionaldikenal dengan sebutan Indonesian leaf fish. Hal ini sebagai bukti secara internasional jenis ikan ini diakui berasal dari Indonesia. Di Indonesia, ikan sepatung terdapat di perairan umum Pulau Sumatera dan Kalimantan. Di Sumatera, ikan ini ditemukan di Sumatera Selatan, Riau, dan Jambi. Di Sumatera Selatan ikan ini dimanfaatkan masyarakat sebagai ikan konsumsi dan juga sebagai ikan hias. Produksi ikan ini masih mengandalkan hasil penangkapan nelayan dari perairan umum sungai dan rawa. Hasil tangkapan nelayan semakin menurun sedangkan pembudidayaan ikan sepatung belum dilakukan. Oleh karena itu, untuk menjaga kelestarian spesies ikan ini dan juga untuk meningkatkan produksinya, ikan sepatung perlu dibudidayakan. Sebagai langkah awal untuk pembudidayaan ikan sepatung perlu pengadaptasian ikan sepatung yang berasal dari alam liar ke dalam wadah budidaya.
