Menurut Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) dalam Peraturan Kepala BPOM RI Nomor HK.03.1.23.08.11.07331 tahun 2011 tentang Metode Analisis Kosmetik menyebutkan bahwa kosmetik adalah bahan atau sediaan yang dimaksudkan untuk digunakan pada bagian luar tubuh manusia (epidermis, rambut, kuku, bibir, dan organ genital bagian luar), atau gigi dan membran mukosa mulut, terutama untuk membersihkan, mewangikan, dan mengubah penampilan, dan/atau memperbaiki bau badan atau melindungi atau memelihara tubuh pada kondisi baik. Tujuan penggunaan kosmetik pada masyarakat modern adalah untuk kebersihan pribadi, meningkatkan daya tarik melalui makeup, meningkatkan rasa percaya diri dan perasaan tenang, melindungi kulit dan mencegah penuaan, dan secara umum membantu seseorang lebih menikmati dan menghargai hidup. Advanced machining processes has significant contributions to the manufacturing industries, especially since many new invented materials have advanced properties, which are difficult to machine using conventional machining processes.
