Edwin Brough, Scalby Manor and the Hunt for Jack the Ripper

Edwin Brough was a Bloodhound breeder based in North Yorkshire, at what is known today as Scalby Manor: a property which he himself built. It housed his lavish Bloodhound kennels, which still stand today, but in 1888, he was asked to leave the relative safety of Scalby, North Yorkshire, and head out to Whitechapel to hunt for the infamous "Jack the Ripper." We will explore the history of Mr. Brough, his family, and his beloved home. We will also explore his involvement in the Whitechapel murder case, and see how his dogs really performed in the hunt for "Jack the Ripper." Plus, we will look at the usage of the use of dogs in law enforcement then and now. With previously unseen reports, maps and photos pertaining to Edwin Brough and his life and career. Featuring a bonus chapter by Sergeant Martin Hopper, Humberside Police, Canine Unit.
