Set in 1856 Missouri, seventeen-year-old Mariah Rainey has lived with little hope that life will be any different for her than it has been for her motherliving in poverty with an abusive husband and five children. A handsome presentation of Scottish artist Sarah Graham's up-close drawings of insects and plants In her majestic drawings, London-based artist Sarah Graham (born 1973) observes the plant and insect world in close-up, through the prism of a naturalist and a traveler. Graham has been drawing and painting full-time for more than a decade now, making images informed by her knowledge of the unfamiliar and faraway. Her studies of the natural world have the complexity and detail of a Leonardo drawing: rhizomes, bulbs and vividly chromatic large-petaled tropical flowers, visited by the insect and butterfly specimens that she borrows from the Entomology Department of the Natural History Museum, London. She is inspired by the graphic plant imagery of German photographer Karl Blossfeldt, and particularly by the spiky biomorphism of Graham Sutherland's works, which feed her sculptural interpretations in charcoal and graphite. Sutherland is her lodestar, first encountered at Saltwood Castle, home to her godmother Jane Clark and the late Sir Kenneth Clark's superb collection of British modernist painting.

Relocation Adjustment Workshop for Women
Whether through relocation by a husband's job transfer to another state or country, or simply feeling dis-located within herself, the mobile wife may have a sense of being untethered,lost, lonely, and at sea. At times, she may even question if she has a unique Self buried beneath the demands of others,which can cause her self-esteem to waffle precariously, and lead to depression. The premise of the workshop is to give women a sense of control over their inner life, despite the uncertainty of their outer one. This is achieved by learning how to manage stress, and to get in tune with one's own body. It builds upon getting in touch, once again, with the Authentic Self. From that is patterned a plan with personal goal setting, confronting blocks, and assessing what one really wants to achieve in her life journey. After completing the four week Relocation Adjustment Workshop, the dislocated woman will no longer so easily leave important parts of herself behind, and life will become as much about her as it is about others.The Relocation Adjustment Workshop is designed to be a self-reflective, gratifying, experience that will lead a woman back to self-confidence and self-esteem.
