"All Loves Excelling has been produced in acknowledgement of the 200th anniversary of the opening of Parramatta's first Wesleyan Methodist Chapel and Sunday School on Macquarie Street, Parramatta, in 1821. Despie the passage pf two centuries, the long-since demolished Chapel remains an important touchstone and ongoing inspiration for Parramatta Mission and the City of Parramatta - representing as it does the conviction of pioneer English missionaries, Samuel and Catherine Leigh and Walter and Mary Lawry (nee Hassall), and the influential position once held by the Wesleyan community in the life and times of the town itself. It also became home to a fledgling Wesleyan Sunday School - somewhat radically comprised of some of the town's most disadvantaged children and led by a pardoned convict. The Chapel's remains - a handful of heavily worn, convict-cut sandstone bricks - are tangible reminders of the courage and determination of its founders, the hard work of its builders and the intended longevity of its benevolence." -- Back cover.

Decolonizing Wesleyan Theology

What can movements for decolonization teach Wesleyan theology? This book faces this question to show that decolonial voices are reshaping the contours of Methodist and Wesleyan traditions. Contributors to this volume include theologians, pastors, and leaders in the Global South who are leading the people called Methodists to encounter the tradition anew in the radical spirit of decolonization.

Australian Evangelical Perspectives on Youth Ministry

Australian Evangelical Perspectives on Youth Ministry

This book is a unique contribution to the study of children’s and youth ministry, displaying the rich theological thinking that is developing amongst Australian evangelical scholars. Many of the writers have previously presented at the Youthworks “House” conference, which promotes “theological reflection for best practice in youth and children’s ministry in a community of youth and children’s ministers.” The themes explored in this book are vitally important to pastors seeking to nurture young people as disciples of Jesus. Thirteen evangelical scholars answer questions such as: How can biblical theology shape a young person’s view of themselves? What is the biblical definition of church and how does this shape our understanding of intergenerational gatherings, family, and community? How should young Christians interact with the culture around them? And how do biblical teachings on sin, grace, and wisdom provide young people with the resources to live in today’s world? You will be challenged to reconsider how theology and exegetical study of the Bible can mold your priorities, principles, and presumptions as you exercise ministry to and with young people.
