Dieser Band liefert eine Bestandsaufnahme über die gegenwärtige Situation des mehrsprachigen Sachfachunterrichts. Erziehungswissenschaftler, Didaktiker, Linguisten und Lehrkräfte tragen gleichermaßen zu einer ausgewogenen Sicht auf die Chancen und Möglichkeiten bilingualen Unterrichtens bei. Konzepte wie «bilingualer Sachfachunterricht», «Content and Language Integrated Learning» und «Languages Across the Curriculum» werden in einzelnen Beiträgen vorgestellt und diskutiert. The present collection contains studies on content-and-language-integrated learning (CLIL) and bilingual teaching contexts. It presents different programs in the domain and combines both theoretical and applied perspectives. Views from educational science, linguistics and teaching practice shed new light on the question of CLIL and its benefits for learners' cognitive and linguistic development.

Examination Thesis from the year 2003 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 1,3, University of Dusseldorf "Heinrich Heine" (Anglistik II), 63 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: This thesis looks at the short story cycle 'Legends of the Province House' by Nathaniel Hawthorne and analyses it with view on the depiction of history. It was handed in in 2003 and reflects the state of research at that time. History pervades Hawthorne's work, and very often his short stories are primarily historical tales. This particularly applies to these four short stories, which are illustrations and discussions of the pre-revolutionary era up to the American Revolution.

Inter- and Transcultural Learning in the Context of Canadian Young Adult Fiction
Within the past few years transcultural learning has become one of the key terms in TEFL theory. Central concerns in current research include differentiating between inter- and transcultural learning, navigating processes of understanding otherness, and assessing cultural competences. Using these aspects this study investigates texts recommended for cultural learning and key components of implementing literature in ELT. The results call for a more holistic perception of alterity and argue in favour of transcultural literature as a basis for transcultural learning. All of this dissertation is in English. Bilingualer Geschichtsunterricht
Bilingualer Unterricht (BU) findet zunehmend Verbreitung in Deutschland. Die Qualitat der bilingualen Sachfacher, zu denen u.a. das Fach Geschichte zahlt, steht bei Befurwortern und Gegnern des BU im Zentrum der Auseinandersetzung. Welche Chancen bzw. Probleme bietet BU fur bilingual unterrichtete Sachfacher? Welche Inhalte, Methoden und Unterrichtsmaterialien eignen sich besonders? Wie werden sprachliche Probleme gelost? Wann sollte die Muttersprache bzw. die Fremdsprache verwendet werden? Wie sind Leistungen zu bewerten und zu zertifizieren? Die Arbeit greift u.a. diese Fragen auf. Es wurden Lehrkrafte aller Schulformen und Schulen in Nordrhein-Westfalen befragt, an denen systematischer deutsch-englischer Geschichtsunterricht erteilt wird. Ein umfassender Uberblick uber Modelle und Stand des bilingualen (Geschichts-)Unterrichts in NRW konnte so entwickelt werden. Neben den empirischen Befunden wurden interdisziplinare Forschungsergebnisse der Bezugsdisziplinen berucksichtigt sowie notwendige erkenntnis-, lerntheoretische und didaktische Grundlagen definiert. Die Studie richtet sich daher besonders an Lehrer, Schulleiter, Unterrichtsplaner, Studierende und Wissenschaftler.
