Emile Bernard

French painter Émile Bernard (1868-1941) was one of the key figures of PostImpressionism. Additionaly, he proved to be highly influential on the evolution of other artistic movements like Cloisonism, Symbolism and the Nabis. He joined the School of Pont-Aven, a group of artists initiated by Paul Gauguin. Apart from painting he also produced engravings and composed poems. Art historian, art critic, and friend of Van Gogh, Redon, and Cézanne, he counts among the most important contributors to Modern art
