Young People at the Heart of Europe
The European Youth Centres (EYCs) in Strasbourg and Budapest were established to implement the Council of Europe's youth policy by providing international training and meeting centres with residential facilities. The Budapest centre was set up in 1995 as the first permanent service of the Council of Europe in a Central and Eastern European country. This publication contains contributions from a variety of people from different age groups and a wide spectrum of political, cultural and social life in Europe who have had some involvement with the Budapest centre, whether in a political or professional function, through work or voluntary commitment to civil society past or present.
The Council of Europe and Youth
The Council of Europe's youth policy: "working for and with young people" has evolved over the past thirty years. The creation of the European Youth Centres and the European Youth Foundation as well as the establishment of a true system of partnership between youth organisations and governments reflect a twofold political awareness. On the one hand, the need to provide young people with a really creative place for participation in society was recognised; and on the other, there was an awareness that the new stages in the building of Europe required not only governments but society at large to participate. All the personalities, who have kindly offered their memories and experiences, have at least one thing in common: in their political or professional functions, in their work or in their voluntary commitment to civil society, present or past, they have come into contact with the European Youth Centre Budapest of the Council of Europe. Their individual memories, wishes and experiences present the numerous parts of a complex puzzle, which together give a colourful and vivid picture of what made and makes the European Youth Centre Budapest.The Council of Europe has forty-six member states, covering virtually the entire continent of Europe. Diversity Youth Forum Report
The Diversity Youth Forum was organized at the European Youth Center within the framework of the "All Different -All Equal" European youth Campaign for Diversity, Human Rights and Participation. The forum identified key issues and objectives related to diversity, human rights and participation from the point of view of young people. The forum participants issued a Final Declaration with the conclusions and recommendations of the participants.
