Human Factors and Cognitive Ergonomics in Advanced Industrial Human-Robot Interaction
Advanced collaborative robotics will be one of the most promising technologies in future industry (e.g., in manufacturing, logistics, or construction). Human-robot interaction and collaboration will be crucial for enhancing the operator’s work conditions and wellbeing, as well as production performance. In that regard, human-factors, with a special emphasis on cognitive ergonomics are fundamental to implementing safe, fluent, and efficient collaborative applications. Associated challenges and opportunities, as well as design recommendations for interactive robotic systems, must be considered likewise. The general target of the present Research Topic is to contribute to the expansion of knowledge in this field, promoting research focused on the study of human factors and cognitive ergonomics in user-centered and collaborative applications in industrial settings. In particular, it aims to enhance the benefits related to human-robot interaction by limiting, as much as possible, the negative effects on the user’s safety and wellbeing that can arise from an improper design and management of collaborative applications, as well as optimizing production system performances.
Managing and Implementing the Digital Transformation
This book shows how companies can practically implement the advantages of Industry 4.0 and digitalization and also addresses the current challenges with regard to engineering education for Industry 4.0. In this book, we collect the contributions of the 1st Symposium on Industrial Engineering and Automation (ISIEA 2022), which took place from June 21–22, 2022 at the Free University of Bolzano. The contributions cover three basic areas: (1) best practice examples and technical solutions for the implementation of Industry 4.0 in production and logistics, (2) management-oriented approaches for the digital transformation in companies, and (3) addressing Industry 4.0 in engineering education. The book targets different readers. Researchers find approaches to current research topics regarding Industry 4.0. Practitioners find valuable examples for technological implementations as well as management approaches for introducing digitalization. Students and lecturers find hints on how Industry 4.0 can be integrated into university teaching.
Human Interaction, Emerging Technologies and Future Applications II
This book reports on research and developments in human-technology interaction. A special emphasis is given to human-computer interaction, and its implementation for a wide range of purposes such as healthcare, aerospace, telecommunication, and education, among others. The human aspects are analyzed in detail. Timely studies on human-centered design, wearable technologies, social and affective computing, augmented, virtual and mixed reality simulation, human rehabilitation and biomechanics represent the core of the book. Emerging technology applications in business, security, and infrastructure are also critically examined, thus offering a timely, scientifically-grounded, but also professionally-oriented snapshot of the current state of the field. The book is based on contributions presented at the 2nd International Conference on Human Interaction and Emerging Technologies: Future Applications, IHIET-AI 2020, held on April 23-25, in Lausanne, Switzerland. HCI International 2018 – Posters' Extended Abstracts
The three-volume set CCIS 850, CCIS 851, and CCIS 852 contains the extended abstracts of the posters presented during the 20th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCI 2018, which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, in July 2018. The total of 1171 papers and 160 posters included in the 30 HCII 2018 proceedings volumes was carefully reviewed and selected from 4346 submissions. The 207 papers presented in these three volumes are organized in topical sections as follows: Part I: interaction and information; images and visualizations; design, usability and user experience; psychological, cognitive and neurocognitive issues in HCI; social media and analytics. Part II: design for all, assistive and rehabilitation technologies; aging and HCI; virtual and augmented reality; emotions, anxiety, stress and well-being. Current Status of and Future Directions for Assessing Technology Acceptance for Digital (Mental) Health Interventions
Recently, digital interventions have proliferated and show promising results in preventing and treating common mental health disorders, such as depression, in different settings (e.g., workplaces). Digital interventions may have advantages over face-to-face interventions (e.g., more accessible; easily customisable; real-time monitoring). However, despite efforts made by healthcare systems worldwide (e.g., apps on prescription in Germany), actual adoption is still rather low in many countries. It is essential to understand innovation acceptance in order to tailor digital interventions and to measure user technology acceptance. In this way, determinants can be identified to derive strategies to promote acceptance. Technology acceptance has been studied extensively, resulting in the development of various theoretical models (e.g., Technology Acceptance Model-TAM; Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology-UTAUT, UTAUT2). Besides several methodological strengths, technology acceptance models also have various limitations, which makes it difficult to investigate causality or to generalize findings across different contexts, populations, and cultures.
