In prefácio de João Castel-Branco Goulão Presidente do Conselho Diretivo do ICAD, I.P. (Instituto para os Comportamentos Aditivos e as Dependências, I.P.)
This book presents specific key natural and artificial systems that are promising biocatalysts in the areas of health, agriculture, environment and energy. It provides a comprehensive account of the state of the art of these systems and outlines the significant progress made in the last decade using these systems to develop innovative, sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. Chapters from expert contributors explore how natural enzymes and artificial systems tackle specific targets such as: climate change, carbon footprint and economy and carbon dioxide utilisation; nitrogen footprint and fixation and nitrous oxide mitigation; hydrogen production, fuel cells and energy from bacte...
First Published in 2004. Despite its centrality to the whole process of teacher education, the supervision of student teachers is still a very much neglected subject. The commonly held conception of a supervisor is of someone with the sole function of going into schools to observe student teachers and make suggestions about theory teaching practice. Professor stones fundamentally questions this view, arguing that much of the dissatisfaction expressed with teacher education is a result of training institutions teaching students about teaching instead of how to teach; the supervisor's role should, he argues, be far more pivotal one in the production of effective teachers. His central theme is a reconceptualization of the role as one that should involve a co-operative function rather than a purely adjudicatory one. He emphasizes forms of theoretical studies and stresses an approach based on joint exploration of teaching by student and supervisor. Throughout, the book offers specific guidance to supervisors based on the author’s considerable practical experience. It will be an important text for all those wishing to explore new ways to enhance the effectiveness of student teaching.
This is a comprehensive survey of European history from the coup d'etat of Napoleon Bonaparte in France to the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand at Sarajevo, which led to the First World War. It concentrates on the twin themes of revolution and nationalism, which often combined in the early part of the century but which increasingly became rival creeds. Going beyond traditional political and diplomatic history, the book incorporates the results of recent research on population movements, the expansion of markets, the accumulation of capital, social mobility, education, changing patterns of leisure, religious practices, and intellectual and artistic developments. The work falls into thr...
The most complete work ever prepared on the subject — based on museum collections, travel and ethnographic accounts, and author's own research. Covers over 200 tribes and everything from games of chance and dexterity to such minor amusements as shuttlecock and tipcat. Bureau of American Ethnology report worth a substantial sum in original edition. 1,112 figures.
This is an overview of the broadly-defined field of school supervision, which encompasses the activities of individuals with a range of titles including principal, department head, team coordinator, superintendent, curriculum director, instructional supervisor, and others. Spanning nearly 40 years, the handbook serves to unify two generations of research by bringing the major works in the field together in an inclusive collection. The 52 chapters, authored by 77 recognized scholars, are organized into nine sections examining supervision as a field of inquiry and as a profession; recognizing the internal and external forces of change in the field; presenting key theoretical concepts, and practical guides; and pointing to future directions.
Instructional supervision is intertwined with the debate on how humans learn and on what knowledge is of greatest import. Those who believe that knowledge is acquired as an individual chooses to follow his or her own inclinations tend to favor nondirective supervision. Those who believe that learning is the result of reciprocity and experimentation advocate collaborative supervision. Those who believe that learning is acquired through compliance with a set of standards advocate directive supervision. Because all methods can be successful when applied in the proper circumstances, it is important for a supervisor to be aware of his or her own beliefs on supervision. To help create such an awar...
This book covers power electronics, in depth, by presenting the basic principles and application details, which can be used both as a textbook and reference book. Introduces a new method to present power electronics converters called Power Blocks Geometry (PBG) Applicable for courses focusing on power electronics, power electronics converters, and advanced power converters Offers a comprehensive set of simulation results to help understand the circuits presented throughout the book
The current book brings together the latest developments in the area of ionic liquids, including synthesis, purity control, toxicity, and scaling-up technologies. In addition, the authors explore the applications of ionic liquids in organic synthesis and catalysis, separation techniques and nanomaterials engineering. Written by key experts in the field, this book is an invaluable material for organic and green chemists in academia and industry.
