Presents the fascinating array of inverse coordination complexes, from monoatomic centres to those with organic molecules as centres, in a systematic manner with colour illustrative examples. This book is a timely and comprehensive introduction to this largely overlooked field of inverse coordination in inorganic chemistry. Inverse Coordination Chemistry features and discusses the interesting array of inverse coordination complexes, from those with monoatomic or polyatomic centres to those with organic molecules as centres. While traditional coordination complexes consist of a metal atom at the centre surrounded by inorganic ligands, inverse coordination complexes show a reversed topology: a central non-metal atom surrounded by metallic ligands. Concisely written, this book is a timely and comprehensive introduction to this exciting but largely overlooked field of inverse coordination in inorganic chemistry. This book serves as an invaluable resource for chemists, educators, and students.
The Catalan modern classic, first published in 1985, now in its 50th edition, for the first time in English. The beginning of the 20th century: 13-year-old Conxa leaves her home village in the Pyrenees to work for her childless aunt. After years of hardship she finds love with Jaume - a love that will be thwarted by the Spanish Civil War. Approaching her own death, Conxa looks back on a life in which she has lost everything except her own indomitable spirit. Why Peirene chose to publish this book: 'I fell in love with Conxa's narrative voice, its stoic calmness and the complete lack of anger and bitterness. It's a timeless voice, down to earth and full of human contradictory nuances. It's th...
Once touted as the world’s largest industry and also a tool for fostering peace and global understanding, tourism has certainly been a major force shaping our world. The recent COVID-19 crisis has led to calls to transform tourism and reset it along more ethical and sustainable lines. It was in this context that calls to "socialise tourism" emerged (Higgins-Desbiolles, 2020). This edited volume builds on this work by employing the term Socialising Tourism as a broad conceptual focal point and guiding term for industry, activists and academics to rethink tourism for social and ecological justice. Socialising Tourism means reorienting travel and tourism based on the rights, interests, and sa...
