The thorax has a fundamental role in the aesthetic of the male body: congenital or acquired alterations are experienced as extremely frustrating clinical situations. Most breast surgery texts briefly mention gynecomastia, but no text comprehensively addresses the male breast and thorax, including reconstructive and cosmetic surgery and surgery in transgender patients. This gap is now thoroughly filled by Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery of the Male Breast: after introducing principles of anatomy and aesthetics for the male thorax, the first part focusses on the main congenital malformations and their treatment; the main benign acquired pathologies and their treatment (including an ample section ...

This two-volume textbook – the result of wide-ranging collaboration among renowned experts in aesthetic surgery from the Americas and Europe – presents state of the art concepts and techniques from across the entire spectrum of cosmetic surgery. It opens with some of the last writings of two of the giants in the discipline, Fernando Ortiz Monasterio and Daniel Marchac, whose contributions set the tone and standard for the rest of the book. In all, there are ten sections covering every aspect of plastic surgery. A very wide range of surgical procedures that can be utilized by the plastic surgeon in training as well as by the established plastic surgeon are described in detail, and in the case of the face, nonsurgical treatments are also fully considered. Further topics include the history of the specialty, legal issues, and anticipated future developments, including regenerative medicine. Numerous beautiful color photographs and skillfully executed illustrations complement the informative text.

Upper limb loss results in significant physical and psychological impairment and is a major financial burden for both patients and healthcare services. Current myoelectric prostheses rely on electromyographic (EMG) signals captured using surface electrodes placed directly over antagonistic muscles in the residual stump to drive a single degree of freedom in the prosthetic limb (e.g., hand open and close). In the absence of the appropriate muscle groups, patients rely on activation of biceps/triceps muscles alone (together with a mode switch) to control all degrees of freedom of the prosthesis. This is a non-physiological method of control since it is non-intuitive and contributes poorly to d...
The incidents described in this book include the 1890 assassination of the New Orleans Chief of Police David Hennessey, the resulting Italian lynchings, and the 1906 murder of the seven-year-old child Walter Lamana. The first two incidents were the impetus for the 1999 HBO movie "Vendetta" and the book The Crescent City Lynchings by Tom Smith. The third incident had the most impact on many of the families documented in this book. The Walter Lamana child-killing story has not resurfaced for over a hundred years, until now.The high profile crimes of the late 1800s and early 1900s typically do not mention the places of origin of the families involved. The majority of those involved came from a ...
