Traditionally grand ducal Tuscany and its cultural politics have been viewed through the lens of absolutism. Based on a wide range of newly found sources and building on recent revisionist scholarship, this study uses the universities of Pisa and Siena to expose the contradictions and the tensions which characterised the grand duchy. Setting the universities against the diplomatic, military, administrative, economic, ecclesiastical, and cultural development of the grand duchy, it shows how innovation mixed with tradition and local privileges were not only upheld but extended significantly.
ECLAP 2012 Conference on Information Technologies for Performing Arts, Media Access and Entertainment
It has been a long history of Information Technology innovations within the Cultural Heritage areas. The Performing arts has also been enforced with a number of new innovations which unveil a range of synergies and possibilities. Most of the technologies and innovations produced for digital libraries, media entertainment and education can be exploited in the field of performing arts, with adaptation and repurposing. Performing arts offer many interesting challenges and opportunities for research and innovations and exploitation of cutting edge research results from interdisciplinary areas. For these reasons, the ECLAP 2012 can be regarded as a continuation of past conferences such as AXMEDIS and WEDELMUSIC (both pressed by IEEE and FUP). ECLAP is an European Commission project to create a social network and media access service for performing arts institutions in Europe, to create the e-library of performing arts, exploiting innovative solutions coming from the ICT.

No Ending
No Ending is a layered murder-mystery featuring a classic hard-boiled detective with a twist—lead detective Frank Gennaro is the brother- in-law of the latest victim of what may or may not be the work of a serial killer. And he just might have been having an affair with Holly Baker, his sister-in-law, discovered dead at the novel’s outset. At once the lead investigator and a potential suspect, Gennaro is emblematic of a plot loaded with deception, subterfuge, and intertwined relation- ships that fail to adhere to conventional social boundaries. The novel features an ensemble cast of shady players, broken families, a team of hardened murder cops, and a very crafty, game-playing serial killer. Readers are immersed within a particularly violent, distrustful, and dark contemporary view of America. With an enormous cast of interconnected characters straight out of central casting and every one of them sporting one secret or often a dozen, No Ending leaves readers guessing right to its actual ending.
Labor Disorders in Neoliberal Italy
Psychological harassment at work, or "mobbing," has become a significant public policy issue in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. Mobbing has given rise to specialized counseling clinics, a new field of professional expertise, and new labor laws. For Noelle J. Molé, mobbing is a manifestation of Italy's rapid transition from a highly protectionist to a market-oriented labor regime and a neoliberal state. She analyzes the classification of mobbing as a work-related illness, the deployment of preventive public health programs, the relation of mobbing to gendered work practices, and workers' use of the concept of mobbing to make legal and medical claims, with implications for state policy, labor contracts, and political movements. For many Italian workers, mobbing embodies the social and psychological effects of an economy and a state in transition.
