The thesis analyses the EU-level policy process on "Social Services of General Interest" over more than a decade. The author identifies the factors that can explain the development and state of play of the EU-level legal, policy and quality frameworks at the end of 2016. He elaborates on relevant theories, concepts and political discourses and looks into the role and initiatives of the EU Member States and the European Commission as the key policymakers. The thesis analyses the reasons and implications for the organisation, provision and financing of social services that stem from the overarching or recalibration of national policy arenas and scopes by the internal market and the EU policy context.

In addition to the new mobility services and the political and legal framework conditions, new instruments are presented with which public mobility can be actively shaped in the future. The concept of public mobility ties in with the claim of public transport and shows how mobility can be offered to all citizens in an economically efficient, ecologically compatible and socially just manner under the changed social framework conditions.
Social Costs Today
This book deals with the current crises from a somewhat different the usual perspectives. It claims that causes and policy implications of these crises cannot be properly assessed by focusing on allocative efficiency or income growth alone; it requires a more general approach, based on social costs. It does not deal with social costs according to the Pigouvian or the Coasian traditions. It draws on the work of Original Institutional Economics (OIE) such as Thorstein Veblen, Karl William Kapp, and Karl Polanyi, on Post-Keynesians such as Hyman Minsky and, in general, on authors who have provided insights beyond the conventional wisdom of economic thought.
Nachhaltigkeit von Genossenschaftsbanken - Quo vadis?
Nachhaltigkeit ist kein vorübergehender Trend, sondern eine dauerhafte globale Aufgabe, die bleiben wird und deshalb in die operative wie strategische Arbeit einer Bank integriert werden muss. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat sich die vorliegende, von der DZ Bank Stiftung finanzierte Studie zum Ziel gesetzt, 1) die morphologische Nachhaltigkeit bankgenossenschaftlicher Geschäftsmodelle herauszuarbeiten, 2) den derzeitigen Umgang von Genossenschaftsbanken mit dem Thema Nachhaltigkeit zu erfassen und 3) Erwartungen in Bezug auf die aktuellen Entwicklungen zu skizzieren. In diesem Zusammenhang versteht sich die Studie auch als Beitrag zu einer anwendungsorientierten Genossenschaftswissenschaft.
Morphologie und Typologie genossenschaftlicher Betriebe
Der vorliegende Band richtet sich an Wissenschaftler und Studierende der Genossenschaftslehre. Diese wird als anwendungsorientierte Wissenschaft verstanden, die einen Beitrag zur besseren Handhabung oder gar Lösung genossenschaftlicher Führungsprobleme leisten soll. Die Ausführungen liefern daher auch interessierten Praktikern nützliche Hinweise. Im Kern wird eine Morphologie und Typologie genossenschaftlicher Betriebe entwickelt. Dabei ist der morphologische Blick auf die sinn- und strukturbezogenen Besonderheiten der Genossenschaften als Unternehmenstyp gerichtet. Genossenschaften werden aus dieser Perspektive beschrieben und analysiert. Die Überlegungen münden in einen umfassenden morphologischen Merkmalskatalog und eine relationale Typenbildung.
Strategische Führung fortschrittsfähiger Genossenschaften
Die Abhandlung befasst sich mit den Grundzügen der Konstruktion einer Theorie der strategischen Führung fortschrittsfähiger Genossenschaften. Ausgangspunkt der Überlegungen ist die Annahme, dass Genossenschaften entwicklungsfähige Organisationen sind, die sich in einem fortlaufenden Prozess höherentwickeln können. Der Gipfel der Höherentwicklung wird dabei in der kontrafaktischen Gestalt der fortschrittsfähigen Genossenschaft gesehen. Das Leitbild der fortschrittsfähigen Genossenschaft ist der Ansatz zu einer konkreten Utopie, die Möglichkeiten der Evolution aufzeigt und Transformationspotentiale für das Gemeinwohl entfaltet. Um in die Richtung des Leitbildes der fortschrittsfähigen Genossenschaft evolvieren zu können, bedarf es einer strategischen Führung, die die langfristige Richtung einer Genossenschaft und ihrer Aufgabenumwelt moderiert und steuert.
