The European or Mediterranean cultivated olive (Olea europaea L., subsp. europaea, var. europaea) is an ancient crop notable for its early domestication. Today, hundreds of olive varieties are grown to produce high-quality fruit for oil and table olives for human consumption. Over the last 30 years, the olive industry has undergone profound innovation due to scientific and technical advances, particularly in genomics, breeding, orchard management, mechanization and agro-ecology. Not all these developments are currently available to smaller producers. Outside the Mediterranean Basin, where it has been present for over 6,000 years, olive cultivation has spread to many other countries. These new olive-growing areas are helping further the expansion of the industry, due to increased awareness of the nutritional and health properties of extra virgin olive oil. Gravitational waves were predicted by Einstein over 75 years ago. Their detection is one of the great challenges of contemporary experimental physics. This Conference intended to honour Edoardo Amaldi for his role in this research and brought together scientists engaged all over the world in gravitational wave experiments with resonant mass, interferometers and space detectors. The book gives a broad view of the detectors presently in operation and of the new generation of interferometric and resonant mass detectors now being built or under design. This collection of essays highlights different questions concerning music theory, interpretation, and performance. Organized into four chapters, the first section looks into interpretation from a hermeneutic perspective, whereas the second analyses the application of this knowledge in musical practice. The discussion turns, in the third part, to a new field of music theory broadly labelled as performance studies. Focused on physical and psychological events, this section broaches fundamental issues such as gesture, bodily movement, expression, emotion, a whole set of processes that act within the framework of performance. The final section addresses the artistic practices in the 21st century across present-day cultural contexts.
