The built environment has been digitizing rapidly and is now transforming into a physical world that is at all times supplemented by a fully web-supported and interconnected digital version, often referred to as Digital Twin. This book shows how diverse data models and web technologies can be created and used for the built environment. Key features of this book are its technical nature and technical detail. The first part of the book highlights a large diversity of IT techniques and their use in the AEC domain, from JSON to XML to EXPRESS to RDF/OWL, for modelling geometry, products, properties, sensor and energy data. The second part of the book focuses on diverse software solutions and approaches, including digital twins, federated data storage on the web, IoT, cloud computing, and smart cities. Key research and strategic development opportunities are comprehensively discussed for distributed web-based building data management, IoT integration and cloud computing. This book aims to serve as a guide and reference for experts and professionals in AEC computing and digital construction including Master's students, PhD researchers, and junior to senior IT-oriented AEC professionals.

Essentials of Smart Building Technology

The term 'Smart Home' generates a lot of buzz in recent times. Most of the times, the idea resonates around ad-hoc solutions that convert your home into a digital gadget. Google, Apple, Amazon, etc. has lots of solutions that make homes more fun and entertaining in recent times. However, just a few people have given Home Technology a very holistic thought. An iPhone is a unified product, marrying hardware and software - same as (recent) automobiles. But when it comes to homes, there is a party that is just concerned with the Building Structure/Delivery; and yet another party concerned with Building Technology. This brings about a divide and ends up keeping homes from being unified solutions ...

Hooked on a Phoenix

AITA for hooking up with my best friend's little sister when we were locked in a bank vault together? I'm a firefighter by trade—though my side hustle is being a phoenix. As you can imagine, not every woman is on board with hooking up with a shapeshifter. Luckily, I have my brothers and my best friend for company. Unfortunately, the aforementioned best friend has tasked me with keeping an eye on his little sister Misty, the girl who used to have a childhood crush on me. A lot has changed since then. Now, Misty is a bank teller with a sassy mouth and curves that don't quit. I could have kept my hands to myself, but then a bank hold-up goes wrong, and Misty and I end up locked in the vault t...

We build a model of financial sector illiquidity in an open economy. Illiquidity defined as a situation in which a country's consolidated financial system has potential short-term obligations in foreign currency that exceed the amount of foreign currency it can have access to on short notice can be associated with self fulfilling bank and/or currency crises. We focus on the policy implications of the model, and study the role of capital inflows and the maturity of external debt, the way in which real exchange rate depreciation can transmit and magnify the effects of bank illiquidity, options for financial regulation, the role of debt and deficits, and the implications of adopting different exchange rate regimes.
