Gardens Don't Grow in Rivers

Fourteen-year-old Paulina faces different situations that destroy her home environment and force her, just a teenager, to become the main source of income in her family amidst the agitation of post-revolutionary Mexico. What's more, she needs to deal with her capacity to discover and to question the world around her. Paulina's left-wing and feminist sympathies are shown in the story, which leads her to rub shoulders with important figures in the arts and politics of her time; in turn, those ideas affect her decisions when it comes to love. She always rejects the easy way out and the scheme of values that middle-class members continue to defend to this day.

Melanin

The word melanin refers to dark natural pigments produced by the oxidative degradation of tyrosine, catalyzed by tyrosinase, and polymerized into insoluble granular substance. The main function of melanin is to protect from harmful agents, primarily UV radiation, but also from oxidation, heavy metals, etc. In this volume, chapters deal with production of melanin in human oral mucosa (Liviu et al.), the regulation of melanin action (Cecile et al.), production and potential technological application of fungal melanins (Pombiero-Sponchiado et al.) and an innovative method for measuring melanin in various samples (Zdybel et al.). In conclusion, this volume presents various biological and industrial aspects of melanin production, uses and analysis.

How the COVID-19 Pandemic Transformed the Mental Health Landscape

This book is a valuable historical record of how counselling psychologists responded to the COVID-19 pandemic around the globe. Volume II presents 17 chapters that address four major topic areas. In the first, the chapters focus on training and supervision: during the pandemic, most on-site training and supervision had to be discontinued to prevent spread of the virus. However, many trainers and training programs found creative ways to continue to provide training opportunities to their trainees. The second focus is on the populations who may require specialty care during times of such upheaval, such as those with psychosis and serious mental illness. In the third part, the chapters speak to...
