Enrico Castellani was born in Castelmassa (Rovigo) in 1930. He began his artistic career in the milieu of Informale though he soon broke away from this movement. In 1959-60, in Milan, he and Piero Manzoni founded the magazine and art gallery Azimuth, which looked to the rationalist, analytic and constructivist climate emerging on the international scene. Castellani, who was specifically interested in the relation between space and light, did not hesitate to modify the actual structure of the picture, thus creating surfaces modulated by a rhythm of volumes and voids that may be constant or infinitely varied. This is the most extensive book published to date on the figure and oeuvre of Castellani. It analyzes his early 1958 drawings and canvases, his subsequent major installations and his recent works dating from 1992.

Women Art Dealers

Women Art Dealers brings together fascinating case studies of galleries run by women between the 1940s and 1980s. It marks a departure from other work in the field of art markets, challenging male-dominated histories by analyzing the work of female dealers who anticipated the global model, worked to promote art across continents, and thus developed an international art market. Part 1 focuses on the women gallerists behind the promotion of modern art after World War II who participated in important research about the neo-Avant-Garde. Part 2 examines the contributions by women art dealers toward the birth of new markets – through establishing the reputation of artistic genres, such as video ...

Against the Avant-garde

"This book casts the poet and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini in a fresh light: his life and work in relation to the visual and performance arts of his time in both Europe and the US. Lavishly illustrated with both documentary and fine art images, it shows how essentially conservative Pasolini was politically and aesthetically despite his reputation as an avant-garde writer and filmmaker. But it also shows how truly advanced Pasolini was when it comes to interdisciplinary art, making him enormously relevant today"--

Theories, Methods, Practices, and Fields of Digital Social Research

The digital, in the form of technologies, scenarios, objects, processes, and relational and interactional structures, is increasingly becoming central to understanding culture, society, human experience, and the social world. It permeates our society’s practices, symbols, and shared meanings, and it makes old distinctions, such as the one between online and offline, real and virtual, and material and immaterial, obsolete. It also introduces digitally native objects of research, such as cyber-bullying and digital identities, which have a direct impact on mainstream sociological problems.
