George E. Schweitzer Scrapbook
This collection consists of a scrapbook created by George E. Schweitzer to document his time as a Penn State student. There are several photographs of Penn State's campus, including photographs of the president's house, Engineering Building, Old Main, New Mining Building, Dairy Barns, Stock Pavilion, Horticulture Building, Agriculture Building, Health Services, Physics and Chemistry Building, McAllister Hall, Track House, Ladies Cottage, Armory, Electrical Lab, Botany Building, Liberal Arts Building, and the University Club. There are also several photographs of student activities, such as the Cadet Corps, Tie-Up scrap, school dances, pajama parties, house parties, football games and victory bonfires, and photographs from a student boycott.

He was an accomplished organist and interpreter of Bach, a crusader for world peace, and a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. He made his philosophy of "reverence for life" an ethic for the world. The hospital he founded in LambarA(c)nA(c) (still in operation in present-day Gabon) is a model of what Europeans might have given to Africans throughout colonial history. But above all, Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) was a talented and compassionate human being. This biography probes beyond the timeworn image of Schweitzer as "the old man in the pith helmet" to reveal the philosopher, scholar, husband, father, humanitarian, and liberal rebel in a conservative church.
